Welcome to GID299 Portfolio & Prod, Spring 2015

This is where, as part of the requirements for this class, you will post your work and receive individualized feedback - from me and your peers. You are required to post at least once a week and comment on at least 2 other student's work. This is a great way to get quick feedback for your work, allowing it to progress, develop, and be the best design work you can produce. I'm looking forward to what the class will do with this space this quarter!

How to participate in the blog:
1. Procure a gmail account
2. Send me your gmail name so I can add you, as an author, to this blog
3. Posting your work also means you attach a "label" that is your name, to your post
4. Post once a week, and comment at least twice a week.

To start things off, I'll post a recent project of mine below. Please leave a comment.

Project Brief: This logo was created for a Classical Pianist who is opening up a teaching studio in an exclusive, upscale community along the Florida coast. During our initial meeting, I learned that he enjoyed the Art Nouveau period.

  2. I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to classical piano music or art nouveau. However the blue and turquoise colors accompanied by the gentle curves in your art work provide a relaxing and soothing feel.

  3. I enjoy the use of color in this design because it really relates to the general message of music. For instance, blue is a very calming and relaxing color that is easy for the eyes to digest. Apart from color the use of line and shape help holster the piano graphic and moves the viewer through the design.

  4. "Art Nouveau" also known as "Jugendstil" was the trend during 1890–1910 over in Europe; though it's influence has had a worldwide impact. Its eclectic form is recognizable with ornate flowing curves often framing its design in intricate flourishing lines. In my opinion, this whiplash style is a perfect compliment to Classical Music (or even Opera) in elegance while matching the fluent boisterous rhythmic movement through the musical notes in conjunction with the uninterrupted violent sweeping curves of visual movement throughout the Art Nouveau design. In harmony with one another, the verbal and visual elements lend a certain ambience to the design. (On a personal note: Art Nouveau is one of my favorite styles!)

Usually when I think of Classical Music I prefer deep burgundies, aged golds and purples as an element of imposing theatrical grandeur. However, bringing a splash of location into the logo design with the wavering ocean blues ties nicely to the Florida Coast ultimately completing the logo's intent.

In my opinion, this is an effective and all-encompassing design that properly portrays the company and it's purpose.

  5. The entire piece feels very classy and sophisticated. The use of color, line and shape create a musical atmosphere and really remind me of walking into a fancy auditorium. I can almost hear the piano!
