German Resistance poster

Rework of my german resistance poster I added a foe shadow to "German Resistance". I moved a few of the people around in an attempt to show more recognizable people saluting. Also fixed spelling errors and added hanging quotation mark.

  1. This could be a powerful piece, but I had to make an effort to see what was happening. It wasn't immediately clear to me that folks were saluting, and that one person wasn't among all who were (even though he is in color and highlighted within a circle). I guess I need more recognizable salutes, especially in the background; the grey kinda looks "murky" to me (at least at 4 a.m.). There are a lot of different shapes in this piece. At first glance, the curves of the flag at the top threw me off; I wanted the shape of the flag to straight to match the slant of the black section at the bottom, so that the center shape would resemble a megaphone. However, the flag is slanted, so I don't know. Those curves just seemed weird to me at first.

  2. It took me a bit to understand what this is about - and I needed to read the quote. Of course, then I understood. This quote is so important to the visual communication that I suggest you think about how to emphasis all, or part of it, so it plays a more important part in the visual impact of the piece. For instance, as I read the quote... it comes to the last sentence that seems to sum it all up. If we were to see that end sentence enlarged I think it would help explain the use of the circle and solitary person... and why that person isn't saluting.

So, rethink the size of the blue circle - which will leave more room for you to be more expressive with your font size/styling within the quote.

Attention to this issue is more important than any other details in the piece, in my opinion.

  3. I was thinking a somewhat smaller blue circle would be good, but for a different reason. Reducing it a bit would make it so that some of the hands wouldn't be overlapped with the blue.

This is a very familiar and powerful quote. I found it was effective as it was, but I also knew the end as soon as I began to read it. However, more expressive typography might be good. (NOTE: Read again for typos—search for double space, last line "t" should be "to". :P)

Have you considered making "German Resistance" italics so that it stands more upright as it slants down? It's just a thought.

    : )
