Resume Illustration

I may put this on my resume instead of the flower. Let me know what you think of the watercolor splash on the background. Wasn't sure if it was too much. Also feedback on the text  (font, caps etc...) and feedback on the overall concept would be appreciated.

  1. I like the illustration. I think you would have to put it in place on your resume to see how it works in the space you have or arrange the content around the illustration. Great concept!

  2. So, this is what's in the head of Sam the illustrator! Delightful. I love the idea of a self-caricature. However, I'd need to see the design incorporated in the resume to decide if it worked or not. I'd like to see an eagle among the soaring birds because an eagle is majestic and classy, and these birds are a little "light." Perhaps fewer birds, also. My thoughts.

  3. Sam - I think this is just great! It seems like you might have a cover page design done! This could be a great way to begin a portfolio that will play to your strengths as an illustrator.

This can be your brand illustration and your job will be to find ways to use, and re-use, it for your different needs. In some cases you might need to allow it to bleed off the top of your trim edge, but I don't see that as a problem and in fact think we will understand that your imagination has no limit or boundaries!

The type "Let your imagination..." in lower right would work well for the portfolio cover page - but not on the resume or business card. Instead, for some uses the artwork will sit alone, and for other uses you'll need to place your name and contact information in that same spot (I'm thinking of your business card). Now is the time to work that out.

    Nice job.

  4. Oops, I realize I didn't answer your question. The water splash is a good background - and also suggests "sky" at the same time.

Deconstruction - that's what it's called when we pull apart an existing design and use its pieces in varies ways for various purposes. I see here multiple ways to deconstruct this - including using just your silhouette, or pulling out a particular bird to use sometimes when the whole illustration is too much.

  5. Sam, I love this illustration! I agree this may be ideal for your portfolio cover. I don't think I would change a thing in the illustration other than the use of the words. To me, the illustration says what the words are saying, but are even more effective than the words. Just my opinion....

I also like the watercolor splash in the background. For me, it pulls the illustration together, depicting a cloud of sorts with your imagination as it soars.

Before reading Coni's additional comment, I was thinking this illustration lends itself well to using various parts of it to create unity throughout your portfolio and other printed or online pieces. I think Coni's idea of deconstruction goes right along with that thought.

    Nice job! : )

  7. I feel like the illustration speaks for itself without the type. Great piece of work as usual.
